A bit about the blogger platform :
Blogger platform is owned by Google.
To create a website on blogger you just need a custom domain (like Backbenchideas. com)and a Gmail account.
You can also create a blog with Blogspot Address too which looks like http://domainname.blogspot.com
So I suggest you go with custom domain always.
The process to start your blog at blogger :
Have a valid email address and signup at blogger.
Blogger welcomes you with an option to create a new blog. you can create 100 blogs with a single valid email address.
At first, use related Blogspot address for your site with a simple blogger template.
Think about your domain name and buy it at a big rock or GoDaddy.
Then attach your domain with the Blogspot address and it will be redirected to a domain name.
There are several guides in google on how to attach a big rock/GoDaddy domain to blogger.
As per your niche choose a responsive template.
